June In Southern Louisiana

Today was another scorcher. We are officially in a drought and it shows. Everything is looking for water. I have given up on the few vegetable plants I had growing. Between the puppy and lack of rain, well, let's just say my green thumb is turning brown very fast! I've managed to keep the plants on the front porch watered that's about it. My granddaughter's little rose bush is coming along. She brought it to me wrapped up in a damp paper towel down in a paper cup. I think it may have been a school project. Anyway, I didn't hold out much hope for it. It was limp as a noodle and I swear I heard it call out for help, but the little bugger is doing fine. Go figure.
My poor air conditioner is working overtime trying to cool this old house. Well, it could be worse. This is also hurricane season for us. I'm glad to report there is nothing going on in the Tropics yet. I have ridden out several hurricanes, the latest bad one being Katrina. I won't be doing that again! My son is a roofer. The heat is life threatening for him. He has been going to work very early in the morning, breaking around eleven and then going back to work in the evening when it is not so hot. Notice I didn't say cooler. We won't see cool for quite sometime yet. The upside to his situation? He's got a really nice tan! I don't know how he does it. I walked outside earlier today and it was horrible. There's like no air. I do believe I could feel my blood pressure rising! Of course we have high humidity along with the heat. It feels like the air is sticking to you (not to mention your clothes). Before you go thinking that all I do is complain, let me tell you, I am o.k. with the weather the way it is. I have lived here all my life and I'm used to it. I just wish October would hurry and get here. It is one of my favorite months, the other being April.
So that's a little taste of June in Southern Louisiana.
