Lazy Sunday

Today was a slow, lazy day here. I didn't get up until after 8 a.m., which is somewhat late for me. Sat around the house all day. Watched old movies on TCM. It's one of my favorites. The first thing I saw was David Copperfield. I was just a kid when I read the book, so I'd pretty much forgotten what it was all about. It's a great story. I'll have to get the grand kids to read/see it. Speaking of grand kids, I went picked them up today at their other grandmother's house. They are staying with their dad who lives right in my backyard...literally! Anyway, that's really all I did today. I didn't watch any news or read any articles.
It finally rained this evening. We sure did need it! Well, it's almost my bedtime, so I will stop now. I'm sure tomorrow I will have something to rant about.

Fox News

My T.V. has been on all day. I have a lineup of programs that I usually follow throughout the day while I'm piddling around the house. I like to watch Fox news. I have pretty much always been pleased with their coverage of various stories, until today. It has been all about Michael Jackson. Yes, I know he is a music icon. I also know that the death of a celebrity of his caliber is very news worthy. I just think that there is so much more going on in the world that we need to be aware of. It seemed that everything else has been put on the back burner. What's going on in Iran? Are they still protesting? How about Korea? Are we still following that ship? If so, where is it? And the one closest to home.....the energy bill? Have you read the bill? Do you think congress did? We must pay attention to these things. Thanks to Glenn Beck, I am getting some information about cap and trade and other news. Keep up the good work Glenn!

Memories

What a day. I was saddened by the news of the deaths of Farrah and Michael.
I grew up listening to the Jackson Five. I had all of their records (45's remember those?) It was terrible how Michael's life took such a downward turn. So much talent! What a waste.
As for Farrah, I thought she was adorable, but kind of lost interest in her after she left Charlie's Angels. I've always loved her hair and pretty much wore mine like that through much of the 80's. I know millions of others did the same. Not long ago, I was channel surfing and ran across "Farrah's Story". I normally don't watch things like that, but something made me stay with it. I'm glad I did. She had such grace and dignity, not to mention a sense of humor. I appreciated what she was doing. Letting the world in to see her in her final days, so sick, took great courage. We all know how the tabloids tear into people. I think she got the jump on them by doing the documentary on her battle with the cancer. I hope it will help others in their struggles with terminal illness.
My prayers go out to Farrah and Michael's families. No matter what we think of them, they were some one's baby and deserve a respectful time to mourn. May God bless them all.

June In Southern Louisiana

Today was another scorcher. We are officially in a drought and it shows. Everything is looking for water. I have given up on the few vegetable plants I had growing. Between the puppy and lack of rain, well, let's just say my green thumb is turning brown very fast! I've managed to keep the plants on the front porch watered that's about it. My granddaughter's little rose bush is coming along. She brought it to me wrapped up in a damp paper towel down in a paper cup. I think it may have been a school project. Anyway, I didn't hold out much hope for it. It was limp as a noodle and I swear I heard it call out for help, but the little bugger is doing fine. Go figure.
My poor air conditioner is working overtime trying to cool this old house. Well, it could be worse. This is also hurricane season for us. I'm glad to report there is nothing going on in the Tropics yet. I have ridden out several hurricanes, the latest bad one being Katrina. I won't be doing that again! My son is a roofer. The heat is life threatening for him. He has been going to work very early in the morning, breaking around eleven and then going back to work in the evening when it is not so hot. Notice I didn't say cooler. We won't see cool for quite sometime yet. The upside to his situation? He's got a really nice tan! I don't know how he does it. I walked outside earlier today and it was horrible. There's like no air. I do believe I could feel my blood pressure rising! Of course we have high humidity along with the heat. It feels like the air is sticking to you (not to mention your clothes). Before you go thinking that all I do is complain, let me tell you, I am o.k. with the weather the way it is. I have lived here all my life and I'm used to it. I just wish October would hurry and get here. It is one of my favorite months, the other being April.
So that's a little taste of June in Southern Louisiana.

Gadgets

I just added some gadgets to my page. Wow, there's all sorts of neat things! Now all I have to do is figure out what to post! No worries, I'll come up with something.

Barbara Boxer

So Ms. Boxer, you don't like being called ma'am? Don't you know that military personnel are trained to respond with "Sir" and "Ma'am"? Would you rather be called dumb or petty?
You say you worked hard to get the title of Senator and that's what you want to be called. Fair enough. I just want to know, when you were working so hard for your title, did that include actually reading the 900 some odd pages of the "Stimulus Bill"? I'll call you "Senator" when I see you doing the job of one. Oh, and just so you know, those of us down here in the south practice manners. Like it or not, if you ask us a question, we will answer, ma'am.

A Voice For The Innocent

Dear Blog Reader,
This has been weighing heavy on my heart lately. The children of America are in danger. What am I talking about? Watch your news, read your papers. If they are not being kidnapped, beaten, sexually abused , tormented and used as the brunt of nasty jokes, they are being ripped from their mother's womb before they even have a chance at life in this world. This has to stop! Don't you realize, our children are our own future?? I have listened to, and even considered opposing arguments. It just doesn't fly with me. Something is terribly wrong with a society that deliberately (and sometimes just for convenience in some cases) destroys it's young. The latest story about this Dr. Tiller being murdered just blows my mind. No, I don't condone his death, but where is the outrage for all the unborn babies that he and others like him assisted in killing? Oh, you don't think it's a person because it's not born yet? Go look at videos and read articles of the stages of pregnancy. Late term abortion is killing babies! They are alive in the womb. So much so, you can see them sucking their thumbs, hiccuping, kicking, turning over, etc. That dear reader is not just a blob! That is a human being! That is a person that could one day grow up to develop cures for our worst diseases. Maybe figure out a solution for global warming. How about world peace? Not to mention all of the wonderful things that are here for our pleasure, music, art, poetry. We must protect our children. They should be cherished. They should be given the rights that the rest of us are so fast to protect, that is, LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

Too Funny

Can you believe this?? PETA is mad at the President for killing a fly!!! Geez! The one time I agree with him and it's about a fly. There may be hope for us afer all.

Today In Our World

It seems like everyday when I turn on the news, there are more changes being made to this great country. I'm not liking what I see and hear. Wake up people!

Bill O'Reily

Why is everyone so mad at Bill O'Reily? He didn't kill anyone. He reported it.

David Letterman

I always knew David Letterman was talentless, but I thought he had some pretty good writers for his show. Apparently, that's not the case anymore. Doesn't Letterman read what has been written for him before he goes on the air? And why, after all this time, is there nothing to talk/joke about but Sara Palin?

It's my opinion that no child should be the brunt of any kind of joke especially that some idiot writers and talk show hosts deem funny.

This was disgusting and degrading. I'm sure with the way society is moving these days, Letterman's ratings have gone through the roof. I wonder how he and his writers would like it if someone made jokes like that about their children.

Dear Blog Reader,
This is my second blog post. It's going rather slow. I thought I'd have a lot to say, and I do, but it is hard to put into words.
I am sitting here watching old movies. Big Saturday night!

My First Post

Dear Blog Readers,
Here I am with my first post. I hope that this will be the start of a great blogship. Don't bother looking that up in the dictionary, it's probably not there. I define it as a friendship within a blog.
Anyway, off I go into a new area of communication. Be patient with me as I learn the ropes.
