My Thoughts On How America Has Broken The Ten Commandments

Bible reference from Exodus 20 verses 1-17, New King James

1. "I am the Lord your God....You shall have no other gods before Me" - Worship of allah, Budda, Mohammad, Satan and self. Praising movie stars, rock stars, Presidents, money.
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image - Statues, pictures, symbols, etc. (Used for worship)
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain - profanity, jokes, phrases, idle talk.
4. Remember the Sabbath - Drop in church attendance, businesses open 7 days a week, causing employees to work longer hours and more days. Over scheduling of time, leading to lack of proper rest, relaxation, and spiritual renewal.
5. Honor your father and mother - Loss of respect and trust, increased violence toward parents, systematic removal of parental rights, crime against the elderly.
6. You shall not murder - Abortion, gangs, serial killings, assassinations.
7. You shall not commit adultery - Extra marital affairs, pornography, prostitution, sexually explicit advertising.
8. You shall not steal - Auto theft, burglary, embezzlement, money laundering, bribery, corruption in businesses, government, community organizations, voter fraud, tax evasion.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor - Slander, gossip, celebrity newspaper rags, countries blaming other countries for the woes of the world.
10. You shall not covet - This list could go on forever! Spread the wealth, communism, monopolies, punishing high achievers, stealing. That's just a few.
So dear blog readers, this is the deal. Think about your life in America, or anywhere else in the world, and let me know if you notice any of the points made here. Better yet, let me know of some that haven't been addressed in this post.

Am I A Racist?

According to popular opinion, I am a racist for the following reasons:
1. I am white
2. I live in the South
3. I don't listen to Hip Hop or Rap music
4. I don't agree with much of what the President is doing

Let me address each one of these points individually.
Point 1. Yes, I am white. I'm actually very white. I don't have even a hint of a tan, just kinda a fish belly color. But you see, my parents were white too, so you can't really hold this one against me.
Point 2. I was born and raised in the south. Again, this one is on my parents. Oh, I guess I could have moved away when I grew up, but hey, it's not a bad place to live. Especially when your whole family and most all of your friends live there too. Besides, I'm not much of a mover anyway. I've only lived in three different places my whole life, and all of those were within a few miles of each other. I have been living where I am now for over 30 years and we are working on the 3rd generation coming up on this place.
Point 3. I guess I should have said I don't listen to Hip Hop or Rap music now. I had to listen to it at some point to know that I don't care much for it. I also don't care much for Opera, Techno or Metal (you know, the kind that sing about the devil?) I do like most other kinds of music including Motown.
Point 4. Now for the big one. The one that has everyone's dander up. I happen to disagree with the President on several issues. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin. I didn't agree with everything Mr. Bush did either. Is it possible to be prejudiced against Texans? I kinda liked Mr. Clinton, until the Monica thing. At least he answered my e-mail. Mr. Bush didn't. Then there is Mr. Carter. Need I say more? Let's don't forget the first Mr. Bush, Mr. Read My Lips.
This is what it boils down to dear readers. I don't care what color is in the Oval office. I care what policies and agendas are there. I care what the President thinks is good for this country, not what he looks like. I think it is perfectly OK to disagree with those in office. We need to pay attention! Speak out if something isn't right.
I'm really tired of hearing that every opinion contrary to Mr. Obama's stems from racism. I just don't believe that that is true. Don't think I have my head in the sand. I know that there is still plenty of racism to go around, but everything really isn't about race, unless it's made to seem that way. Stick to the issues and don't be intimidated when someone calls you a racist just because you don't agree with them. That is just a distraction, a way of shutting you up. Remember racism can go both ways.

President Obama's Speech To School Children

My grandkids will not be participating in the telecast of President Obama's speech. They will be doing other activities while the speech is on. I found out about this on Thursday. I am in total agreement with their parent's decision. Today I heard on the radio that there was a transcript of the speech on the internet. I think I may have found it. The speech is pretty basic. He talks about the importance of a good education, setting goals and sticking with it, even when the going gets tough. He also talks about how the decisions we make as individuals has an effect not only on us, but our families, community and country. My concern is more for the "suggested" lesson plan that is to follow. Again, in basic form; what do you want to be when you grow up and what do you think you need to do to achieve that, is fine. Any teacher worth a grain of salt can do that without any suggestions from the White House.
I believe it is the responsibility of the parents to guide, encourage and nurture our children in their effort to set goals and realize their potential. It is up to parents to impart moral standards, good work ethics and an understanding of their own self worth and place in society. With young children, Kindergarten and elementary, the most important people in their lives are their parents (or should be). I don't think the President will have much of an effect on them. Besides, he has some things to learn himself. How to run a great nation without running it in the ground for starters. Yes Mr. President, you concentrate on your job and how you can improve, and leave the raising of our children to us the parents.

Tiling The Bathroom

After a couple of hours of trying to decide what kind/color tile to get, we left our local home improvement store equipped with everything we needed to start the long awaited bathroom remodel. Actually, we had already started several months ago. Anyway, this is a small bathroom, really only room for one person to work. That got me off the hook right fast. Hubby jumped right in and now, Monday night, he is taking a break. The tiling is almost finished, just five more tiles and that's it. We just have to figure out what to do with the big hole in the wall where the tile ends and uh, nothing begins.
I have a bunch of great ideas. You see, that's my job. I get the ideas and then try to impart them to hubby to make them a reality. He says, "When you think, I get into trouble." Trouble meaning I think it and he gets to do the work. I must say, over the years he's become very good at figuring out just what it is my brain is seeing. They say once you live with someone long enough, you kinda blurr into one. I think that may be what's happening. The only thing is, most of the time, things look much better in my brain than they do here in the real world.
So this weekend I have been going between my sofa (where the computer is) and the bathroom to offer my help. Just between us, I am really checking to make sure he's still working and not eating pizza or something, but I do have to keep up appearances! I did get to hand him a few tiles and I think once I even squeezed out the sponge. So I did my part. He doesn't allow me to play with the tools.
Considering that neither one of us knew what we were doing, it all came out pretty good. We did have to exchange the grout, but that was a good excuse for me to look at vanities, fixtures, mirrors, etc. See, my brain already has other troubles just waiting for my dear hubby!
